Early November 2010, Dr. Karrick, and his wife Kimberley, traveled to Ben Tre, Vietnam as participants in an eye care mission organized by PHI (Project Health International - http://projecthealthinternational.org).
Ben Tre is located in the Mekong Delta, approximately 75 miles southwest of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Dr. Karrick was one of the team of six Optometric Physicians, and three Ophthalmologist, examining and treating 400 patients a day, in four different villages in Ben Tre Provence.
The group dispensed glasses from an assortment of 4000 donated pairs brought for the trip, donated by thousands of individuals, including the employees of Premera Blue Cross. Pharmaceutical companies Alcon, and Allergan, donated eye medications to the mission, for the treatment of a variety of eye conditions and diseases.
This was the Karricks’ second eye care mission, and a very rewarding and eye opening one it was! Dr. Owen has also participated in missionary trips to third world countries to help treat eye problems not only locally, but around the world.
